Earlier this year, Oakland's own poptronic princess Star Amerasu released her second EP, Rebecca, under the choir kid meets club kid moniker Ah-Mer-Ah-Su. The independent five-track effort, which followed her breakout Eclipsing EP, reflects on Amerasu's life as a trans [Black woman]—personal, emotional and fully encompassed on her current single, "Space."

The track, which she penned as a 20-year-old, speaks to the heartbreak trans women feel [when they are] often viewed as disposable and left with no space of their own in society. Amerasu repeats the word, "space," throughout the song, wondering where she belongs and lamenting on lovers who prefer having sexual relationships with [her] in private.

Amerasu's new music video is a dramatized ode to "Space," featuring the artist performing as a vampire alongside a cast of queer porn stars and trans models. Set in San Francisco, the clip follows a number of fleeting romantic flings that ultimately lead to bloodshed, before two vampires find each other in the end and light off sparklers.
