Trust me you should, Right most of the time I am.
so i just got back from my third viewing (second in theatre) of star wars tfa and i noticed this thing:
when maz kanata tells finn that she’s seen his eyes before, and they’re the eyes of a man who wants to run, she’s literally just gotten done telling han solo that he needs to stop running away from the fight between the light side and the dark, and away from leia.
[hot dog vendor voice] han-finn parallels, i got your han-finn parallels right here
can i just say that i had a huge revelation about the themes in the force awakens just now?
because the themes of this movie are:
escaping
surviving
bringing the people you care about home
and that’s all stated in what poe says to bb8 during the battle of jakku:
‘get as far away from here as you can. i’ll come back for you. you’ll be all right.’
and it’s shown in basically everything -- finn escaping the first order, rey surviving for thirteen years on jakku, alone, both of them first bringing bb8 and han solo inadvertently home to the resistance, and then finn and han coming to starkiller base to try and bring people home (han is there for his son; finn is there for rey).
and it’s particularly fascinating because finn and han are so parallel and they are the ones who go on this mission, into the bowels of the beast that is starkiller, and for finn that means nearly sacrificing his escape, and for han it means sacrificing his life. both of them sacrifice the two themes for the one, the most important theme: family.
for the skywalkers, that family is blood.
for finn, rey, and poe, that family is found on accident and then cemented by choice, held together by finn at the center of that choosing.
i love how gently cavalier poe dameron is when dealing with kylo also poe and finn are both so enthusiastic about this escape; poe's like a kid on Christmas
my feelings about stormpilot are kinda complicated b/c on the one hand, excellent ship with great chemistry and thematic resonance. additionally, holy shit, i'm in a fandom where the most popular ship is a gay interracial ship, and it's the most popular by a large margin. but on the other hand, i'm going to be even more crushed than usual if it turns out to be queerbaiting, and i'm having trouble determining the odds here as to whether it will be or not. (shipping ships that are in incomplete canons is the Worst)
