                    Aline was distractingly wet at this point. Her thighs felt sticky every time she shifted in her seat. She hoped that no one would notice, or focus on how her attention was on her phone and her phone only. Aline was usually distracted during press conferences, but only casually, to the point where she could politely laugh or react to whatever the reports were saying. Trust that Aline was just as impatient as Danni was to leave so she could join her girlfriend.

Danni wasn’t exactly the most patient of people when it came to being teased, but in this particular instance she had no choice but to wait for Aline to be free to leave her mother’s side. It was almost torturous in a way, Danni could only pray that the woman would choose to make her closing statements quick and to the point. Tapping her finger against the back of her phone impatiently as she stared at the screen for a moment Danni huffed out a small breath of laughter before tapping out a quick message.

“And now you are one.” Matt hid his smirk round the lip of his beer, knowing she probably shared the same dislike for the title that he did. One of the undoubtedly many reasons it was easier with Jessica than with the other two Defenders, as the media had claimed them. 

He didn’t know whether it was shared traumatic stories, shared disdain for most of the population, or shared love of cheap booze that got you drunk fast, but they had undoubtedly hit it off rather quickly after everything was said and done. (And after he had returned from the dead, of course.) 

“Ironic, isn’t it? Maybe we need to get you some colorful spandex, hm?” Maybe it was shared smartass tendencies that connected them, because he couldn’t help but let that one out, even if he leaned slightly away from her in expectation of a retaliatory punch. Backtracking and changing the subject all in one go, he offered, “I do know a guy if you need a suit, some extra protection wouldn’t be the worst thing when you know you’re going into big dangerous fights.”

a grin crept across her face as she looked down at him, eyebrow quirking up just a touch. “yeah, it looks like i did,” she hummed, her hands wrapped around his wrists, holding them against the ground as she held his waist down with her thighs. “so what’s my prize?” she leaned over him, looking down as a small laugh escaped her, before she was leaning down to brush their lips together lightly. “because every win deserves a prize. and i’m in a... very good position for one.” her words were punctuated with a slight wiggle of her hips, teeth biting down on her lower lip lightly.

The night had taken an unexpected turn, the doctor nearly getting snatched off the street by a group of criminals that wanted her to save their boss. She had been able to fend off one of them, self defense training helping her render the man unconscious before the other four were closing in on her. One second she was sure that she’d be taken to god knows where and the next a man was jumping into the fray, and dispatching the men in brutal fashion. For a moment Carmen didn’t know how to react, though soon enough she was calling out a warning when a gun appeared and seconds later bullets began to fly. One managed to hit her savior, a ricochet off a dumpster that she could only assume hit the man when she heard him give a pained grunt. It didn’t stop him from putting the last would be kidnapper down, leaving just her and this stranger standing alone in a poorly lit alleyway. It took some convincing, and simple stubborn refusal to let the man leave without some form of care. He wouldn’t go to a hospital, so Carmen would do the next best thing and bring him to her place that was not too far away from where they were. It was a risk, she knew as much, but there was something that told her she should trust the man more than fear him. 

“So I guess it’s our lucky night. You saved me from getting dragged off to who knows where, and I just happen to be a doctor. What are the odds?” Carmen spoke with an awkward laugh trailing her words, finally secured away in her home as she laid out a first aid kit on the bathroom counter. It was obvious that she was still shaken up, but using this as a means to distract herself from that fact. “We should probably start with the bullet, you got hit right?”
