Hey I know you've been All About Starbound lately and I've always had trouble getting into it proper so like, do you have any Advice for Actually Getting Shit Done in it?
hmmm! i know what you mean… there’s so much to do! it can be overwhelming! well, i sorta have a system i’ve made for myself, so i focus on one goal at a time. sometimes i’ll make a real, physical to-do list, lol. actually, juggling the organization of possessions and goals in this game is like… half the fun for me. this actually got uhhh, super long, so i’m gonna publish it cause new players might find it useful? i’d put it under a read-more cut but idk if that would make it impossible for some people to click thru to. anyway…
EXPLORATION:
- i explore one star system at a time, one planet at a time (going outwards from the center)
- i spent a lot of time on the first planet i explored uhhh trying to get back underground because i tunneled every which way down there and then got lost died and lost (almost) all my stuff and had to find it again. so… don’t do that thing i done
- after exploring a planet all the way round, i clear my inventory of stuff that shouldnt be in there for long (delete, store or sell)
- putting flags on planets while exploring them is crucial, but after i’ve gotten all the resources i can there, i delete any flags i put up unless i really want to establish a colony there, or there’s a settlement of friendly NPCs that i’d like to come back and trade with
- i actually have a stupidly meticulous system for sorting my teleport points. i noticed that they were being listed in alphabetical order, so… i made that shit work for me
ITEMS:
- i’ve found that trying to make money from farming is not effective, and you’re better off just exploring planets and hawking all the shit you find in chests and stuff. i’m not saying don’t make farms, i’m just saying they’re not gonna be a like… big source of income or anything
- the little ^v arrows on your inventory screen auto-organize your shit. maybe that’s obvious and i’m just a dumbass
- holy shit, this game gets so much easier once you’re able to craft a fridge. honestly, like… you and any other new Starbounders who follow me can hit me the fuck up for a free fridge because like… it’s nice to be able to return to your ship for a quick snack instead of having to kill an animal for it right then and there and then make a fire and roast it on the fire
BUILDING:
- ok GOD i was playing this damn game for HOURS before i realized that you can hold right-click to use the matter manipulator on the background layer. again, maybe obvious, took me forever to figure out.
- i put all my crafting stations in the first house i built and now i regret it because i want them on my ship and i gotta drag em all the way up and like, find room for em
-honestly i’d recommend just keeping things you want handy on your ship as much as you can… don’t be like me and keep important shit in a place where you have to teleport to get it
- EDIT: ok this is important i almost forgot to include it but if you hold shift, you can remove and place blocks in a little bitty 1x1 area, rather than the massive radius the Matter Manipulator eventually gets upgraded to lol
ok yea anyway that’s all my Starbound tips, lmk if you want to know more about a specific goal or whatever cause this game is my shit right now
