The loss of her family and friends left Star with very deep mental scars. She often has nightmares her first few nights in a new place, and if she's under enough stress, night terrors. However, what is more worrying to Star and those who really know her, are the flash backs which, under extremely specific circumstances, causes her to suffer a mild psychotic break. This usually occurs when someone Star cares very deeply for has been severely injured and rendered unconscious. This usually leads Star to believe her friend is dead at which point she flashes back to the moment when her friends and family were killed. At this point Star fixates on the one individual whom she perceives to be the antagonist, often confusing that individual for Tillie. This creates a very dangerous situation since the only thought left in Star's head is to destroy 'Tillie'. She will cut down anyone who stands in her way, even her friends aren't safe when she's in this state. Star appears more intimidating to opponents at this point because of the sheer power her magic, which appears like a force of nature, violent and unstoppable. But this situation is equally dangerous, if not more so, for Star. She completely forgets her limits and spends her energy at an alarming rate, also her efficiency drastically decreases as lacks the level of concentration and focus needed to completely cast a spell. This is called 'forcing' a spell and while Mages are the only ones who can 'force' a spell, the energy cost is tremendous. At that point so long as Star's enemy can avoid her she will eventually exhaust her energy and end up killing herself. At this point there's really only two ways to stop Star, she needs to be knocked unconscious, or the friend that she thought was dead, or someone equally close to her, brings her back to reality.
