his grandparents used to live in eastbell before settling down in the US !! so rain has heard a lot of fairy tales about this place

so just some backstory but i tried to keep to the original irony behind lucky’s name in regards to them not actually being lucky at all lol
her name hyejin is made up from the characters 惠 (hye: good fortune) and 眞 (jin: honesty?? truth?? can’t remember tbh but u kno the vibe dsjkf) // her japanese name is similar, using the same character 惠 (megumi) translating into something similar
and then kudo (and her dad’s occupation) is a reference to my favorite anime detective conan hehe
overall she’s v sweet but always been a bit eccentric (read: she’s not like other girls)
used to be rather quiet but one day she kinda just.......changed? and started being super open about everything and doesn’t have a filter anymore
tells a lot of tall tales to cope with being alone..........also people think that it’s funny now sooo??
pulled a lot of pranks in school, so she became known as “boo” since she would say it so often
she grew a liking towards scary movies in particular when she accidentally walked in on her dad watching one when she was supposed to be asleep. she liked that her dad would comfort here whenever she was afraid <3

ok so for starters, this is hyemi!! she won’t explicitly tell you to call her hailey bc she’s just annoying like that but she will refer to herself as such as a “yes i do have an english name bc i speak english subtle flex nbd”

OK onto her bg she was raised in seoul, her dad being a big ceo of an entertainment company and her mom being a super popular actress
her parents valued staying in the good graces of the public eye over genuine familial relationships so she’s been living her life trying to fit into the mold of a perfect, polite, wonderful daughter
she has an older brother ( WANTED CONNECTION !!! ) who was expected to take on all the duties of the eldest child/only son, but was always overshadowed by hyemi (who was much better at picking up the skills and work necessary) instead
long story short, he up and left one day without a word to anyone in the family and their parents were both kinda shrug and instead of being concerned about it, turned all their effort and attention towards shifting the filial duties onto their perfect daughter hyemi
she was pretty distraught over this and couldn’t understand how no one seemed phased by any of it, which messed up her work ethic and she couldn’t really focus on doing anything
although she and her brother weren’t all that close (she always felt that he hated her bc they were essentially kind of being pitted against each other by their parents’ expectations of them both) she blamed herself for his leave
unsure of how to navigate her feelings she went into his room hoping for some kind of comfort/closure but it was so messy she kind of ended up cleaning some things and found a nook inc. brochure which seemed to scream IT’S A SIGN to her
so while she normally is one to only believe in concrete plans and solid evidence, she really wanted to believe that she might find her brother here, make up with him, and also get some time away from the stress of their family lol

she’s honestly so judgemental and high maintenance but will never speak those thoughts out loud bc of how she was raised

- based on brewster - you know, the pigeon guy who runs the coffee shop!
-he’s pretty close to the skeleton description, but i’d say the biggest emphasis is his knowledge of coffee, his interest in finding friends/companions/etc and trying to get used to the Island Life instead of being in the city
-his shop has been here for a while, he’s not completely a fresh face but he doesn’t completely feel like he belongs yet (please... talk to him, make him feel welcome)
-basically the coffee shop is the family business, and he took over after his dad died but didn’t like running it in the city, so he came here!
-personality wise, he’s really quiet and it takes him a while to get used to talking to people, but once he’s close, he really likes talking to people - but if you annoy him in some way, you will know... mostly by his glare, and less likely with his words
-if you are his friend... you can call him a nerd and he can’t even deny it
-all he really wants in life is to have a successful coffee shop and make sure his mom is supported as she gets older since he isn’t there with her, maybe a side of love or general happiness???? we’ll see
