an extension from something i mentioned in a server: my dynamics of starlock and stardrift

now, lets get to the good stuff.

starscream x deadlock to me ties heavily with their rivalry (that i made up in my head). before deadlock was assigned to turmoil, he stood side by side with starscream, and imo i think it took a long while before megatron had a 2nd in command because he wanted to see who came out on top between them all. as time went on it was clear that these 2 would never miss a chance at each other's necks because of the shiny title of '2nd in command'. perhaps then, for starscream, it was all about power, while for deadlock, it was about security. both wanted to be in control. all the while megatron thought, "ah, my henchmen are fighting for survival of the fittest! continue." of course this rivalry was then extended to adoration. i cant remember who felt it first, deadlock or starscream. the sudden realization that your rival's competency, no one does it like they do. you two might be of differing reasons, but you were united by competition. they both desperately want the devotion that they displayed towards megatron, to each other. they just dont realize it yet. they secretly found their way into each other's arms once one realizes this and the other follows. feelings were complicated, but reciprocated. the competition maintained. it was the central thing about their relationship, trying to one-up each other, until deadlock was eventually separated from starscream and went under someone else's wing. starscream, although having won the title of megatron's 2nd in command, craved for that same competition that deadlock offered. "no one can fight you but ME. no one fights you like I do."

starscream x drift to me now shifted more towards drift's feelings towards starscream. while drift went through too many phases of change, and in the end still having trouble figuring himself out (in my head), starscream... kinda hardly changed. drift saw it all, saw the same person: the same lonely bastard that fiend for love and adoration, chewed and clawed his way out of misery, but in a more unfortunate manner, compared to himself. and thats the thing, isnt it? you see yourself in another person. and that made drift empathize with starscream, despite all of this on starscream's end, it was bittersweet. starscream denied himself the luxury of many things, most importantly his feelings, but seeing drift again? secretly, he went: 'oh, look how much you have changed, look where you are now, look, please, you have optics to tell for yourself how much youve grown from the mech i once knew'. and it was a feeling that he never thought was possible. pride in someone else besides himself. it humbled him. drift knew starscream and starscream knew drift. it was a relationship only they knew the depths of which it goes. and they love to pretend it was superficial. denial is a game, a thing they both knew well, teased and played with each other. despite all this, despite me, despite starscream, is there still hope? drift would answer: yes. soon they reconnected in those old ways of being on each other's necks again, for auld lang syne, even when there was no more war to be fought, no more friends to lose, let their relationship be a reminder that despite it all, there is still hope.
