Bones woke abruptly from a bad dream. His head was killing him and his eyes felt swollen and achy. The sunlight streaming through the curtains was blinding and sliced through the room, only doubling his headache. He pulled the shades and tugged the covers up over his head with a groan, closing his eyes and trying so hard to forget the nightmare. He had dreamed that he and Jim had called it quits, had called it all off. And all because of a misunderstanding. Jim couldn’t understand how he could spend so much time tangled up in his job with his internship. He was always on call, always taking phone calls, always at the hospital. But he was studying to be a doctor, dammit, that’s what he was supposed to do.... but it was all more than just a dream, wasn’t it? His nightmare was just a replay of what had really happened. Jim had decided to give him some time alone, to give him more time to dedicate to his degree. Being a doctor was all Bones had ever wanted, but never at the expense of losing Jim. Jim was his everything. And now he was gone. What was Leo supposed to do? He didn’t even want to go to his rotations anymore. What was the point if Jim wasn’t there to share in his successes? Bones wiped roughly at his eyes, turning miserably over on his side in the big empty bed.
