my Kataang headcanon is that both Aang and Katara made betrothal necklaces (it doesn’t matter who proposed first) but when presented the other takes out their necklace like “damn it! I wanted to ask first.”
awww, I love that they both want to be the one to ask. I've mentioned before that I don't know whether or not they would use betrothal necklaces (it's a Northern tradition and Katara didn't even know what she wore was a betrothal necklace until they were in the North Pole at the end of B1, PLUS they are a multi-cultural relationship and maybe there's an Air Nomad tradition they would pull from? Who knows) but I can definitely see this happening if they did. Maybe the new movie will show something about their proposal/wedding (although based on what I've seen I think they'll already be married in the movie, and Katara will be expecting either Bumi or Kya--but probably Bumi. That's just my guess, though!) or we'll get comic content that shows a necklace. Probably, though, the writers aren't as interested in engaging with those parts of the story (the romance was always secondary to the other storylines in AtLA, after all), so we'll just get to keep our headcanons and fics and keep imagining :)
