If My Hero Academia Had Pokémon - Kirishima

When choosing Pokemon I’ve gone off aesthetics, personality, lore, but most importantly: vibes.

Determined, outgoing, manly 💪

Mudsdale - ground horsey that looks solid af and matches his colours? Yeah, you’re coming with me! This mon would be used as a mount for him to get around, and would be strong enough to carry others too, something Kirishima is very proud of.

Rhydon - Rock rhino! His ace Pokémon. Has an armour-like hide and just look at its determined facial expression! Oh yeah, that Pokémon belongs to Red Riot!

Spearow - Aesthetically it’s red and spiky, so it works. I also wanted some type variation. I mainly added this mon as Kirishima isn’t all hard as rock, and he wasn’t always so outgoing, having struggled with his self-esteem.

Gigilith - It looks like him.

Lycanrock - Rockruff would have been one of his first pokémon, perhaps to help him understand his own quirk? They would have worked incredibly hard together and eventually his pup evolved, well into their night training session.

Blaziken - his starter Pokémon and very representative of his own journey to become a hero: unsure, determined to get stronger, a formidable opponent. A fire type is also weak to rock type, unlike a grass or water type, so of course he was going

Does he nickname his Pokémon? Sure does! “Manly” cool names, like Axel, Crush, Flint, vibes etc.

When choosing Pokemon I’ve gone off aesthetics, personality, lore, but most importantly: vibes.

Cool, swift, bird.

Pidgeot - his ace Pokemon, possibly even his starter from when he happened to share some crumbs with a pidgey one time.

Fan Rotom - I think he would have a rotom in some form for its versatility and to help type coverage on his team, but also I can imagine he uses Rotom as tech to be more efficient.

Scrafty - it’s part dark type, and we know Hawks can make the hard calls. I think this Hoodlum Pokémon would help his popularity ratings as well, seeing it as cool. Personally, I just think it looks like him.

Braviary - I don’t think this would’ve been his choice, it was “bestowed” upon him. The red wings almost match his own, and it’s a valiant Pokémon, so there would definitely be promos of the two together, more than any of his other mons.

Dodrio - Yes, another bird, he’s a bird man he gets bird Pokémon, except this one doesn’t look like your typical flying type bird Pokémon, which i think he would like. It’s also his colours so the aesthetics are strong here.

Lycanrock - Dusk form, obviously, ‘cause it’s the coolest and trickiest to evolve. Main reason is because it works aesthetically, but also I think it matches his vibes.

Does he nickname his Pokemon? Maybe… perhaps they have 2 names; 1 he calls them when they’re alone and 1 public persona.

When choosing Pokemon I’ve gone off aesthetics, personality, lore, but most importantly: vibes.

Skilled, determined, tormented

Avalugg - a massive hunk of ice to represent the heaven piercing ice walls he creates

Baxcalibur - part dragon type, a pseudo-legendary, perfect for the son of the number 2 1 hero.

Sandslash - cool, slick, spiky. It’s smaller than his other two powerful ice types so would be easier to have outside its pokeball when out and about if he wanted.

Charcadet - just a little fiery dude, chosen mainly ‘cos it evolves into Ceruledge which is a ghost Pokémon to represent how his past will always haunt him 🙃

Litleo - when he decided to start using his fire half, I imagine he would want the cutest, cuddliest looking fire Pokémon and catch this lil gal. He avoided the males as their manes as Pyroar reminded him too much of his dad…

Litten - his starter Pokémon that he refused to use until the sports festival, gifted to him by his father of course.

Does he nickname his Pokemon? No, they already have names… don’t they?

When choosing Pokemon I’ve gone off aesthetics, personality, lore, but most importantly: vibes.

Serious, earnest, disciplined

Revavroom - vroom vroom! Engine Pokémon that’s fast? Yeah, that’s a no brainer, welcome to the team.

Golisopod - It’s the armour, looks like Ida.

Squawkabilly - it has a “class is starting! It’s time to take our seats!” vibe. It would be the Pokémon people wouldn’t expect to be on his team as it doesn’t quite “go”, but it was likely the first one he caught himself and he has a duty of care to look after it. It would definitely have his mannerisms. I chose the white feathered type as these are more likely to get on with other mons.

Skarmory - it’s aesthetically perfect

Jolteon - it’s fast. It also looks more approachable and friendly compared to his other Pokémon which is something Ida would be very conscious of as he tries to be the best hero he can be. It’s very likely Eevee was one of his first Pokémon, if not his starter.

Klinklang - gears! Klink was gifted to him by his family when he came of age and it represents the Ingenium “brand”.

Does he nickname his Pokemon? I’m leaning towards no. It would be a funny bit for his classmates to suggest he nickname his Pokémon and he keeps suggesting things that don’t really work, but he keeps trying ‘cos he isn’t one to give up, so they eventually just tell him to stop and they all accept that you don’t have to nickname your mons for them to feel loved and be heroic.

If My Hero Academia Had Pokémon - Present Mic

When choosing Pokemon I’ve gone off aesthetics, personality, lore, but most importantly: vibes.

Loud, extrovert, charismatic.

Exploud - obviously: perfection. His partner, his ace. If he was a Pokémon, it would be this.

Toxtricity - amped type, because it’s yellow and hype, literally the rockstar Pokémon so I had to use it.

Hippowdon - it adds type coverage but the main reason is because of its mouth, look at that! Also it has his colours.

Obstagoon - again, it has connections to sound attacks/moves and it looks cool.

Kilowattrel - aesthetically it works. Sound and electric are practically the same vibe and a flying type is helpful for recon reasons, so this felt like the best choice.

Raichu - the tail reminds me of Mic’s hair, but also I think he would have a confident, energetic lil mon that just vibes with him on a personal level. It’s the sidekick he has next to him when he’s not allowed his big boy Exploud.

Does he nickname his Pokemon? Definitely, they all have hero names.
