one-trick pony: dantrag baenre’s unoriginal obsession with dueling drizzt. get in line my dude.
best standalone scene: artemis and catti-brie’s prison break. very fun to see them work together.
seven seconds of fame: khareesa h’kar. shoot your shot ma’am!
best fake out: catti-brie disguised as a drow despite speaking no drow and just hissing at people. honorable mention to drizzt pretending to be a stalagmite mound.

so back when I was writing starless night I wasn’t sure if one of my betas was fine with heroes rising spoilers and I came so close to creating an alternate version trust fall:anime only style on discord for her
there would only have been one change: when bakugou and co are leaving the prison and somebody asks why bakugou is in the dreamscape if it’s an OFA thing he would have just been like “because griffin hates me personally” and then everyone would have accepted it immediately
anyway the beta was fine with the spoilers so it never came to be but I still think about it sometimes

HOLY CRAP!! If I thought the legacy was good, Starless Night was amazing!! This book was so emotional, adventure-packed, and filled with juicy Artemis and Drizzt moments
OKAY first off let's talk plot points I haven't gotten to in earlier posts
-Catti and Drizzt yall cannot keep kissing and being like "oh it's platonic" like OH ITS NOT
-Catti-Brie and Artemis' alliance showed me they are GREAT frenemies and now I kind of want a little Drizzt/Catti/Artemis polycule
-Look I am a slut for pain coming upon my favorite characters so Vendes torturing Drizzt was TOP TIER
-Regis being the commander of the dwarves??? THAT IS SO CUTE like this little guy!! He's changed a lot, but I still love him
-And OK what's with Dantrag's sword??? Can we not be evil for twelve seconds you're legit just metal
-And um. Wulfgar is still dead. Like I swear he was in other books but maybe not like??? hello?? I'm not really complaining still tho
So now, let's talk about Bruenor
I feel like I almost cried multiple times reading about him. He's such a fiery character and to see him so broken was just depressing. I will never not sing Salvatore's praise when it comes to grief, especially when he writes it for characters like Bruenor, who seem just impenetrable and like nothing can defeat them. I think it really goes to show how beautiful the series is when something so typically superficial like fantasy is written with such deep emotion.
Now that I have made you sob with me, it's time for the inevitable rant about other miscellaneous things!

The end of starless night was everything to me. Jarlaxle coming to the squad with „hey <3that was me! I helped you~ I’m such a good boy uwu you are welcome, now give me back the spider mask. Bye!“ and then vanishing in a colored smoke bomb. I wonder Why he stopped using these? XD
I am absolutely loving these details on how the Drow have adapted to the Underdark and what differentiates them from other Elves and Surface Dwellers.
