Nah, it’s just my all-encompassing robot rant tag! (It’s disproportionately full of ZeroX stuff though, haha).
The characterization in command mission was awesome! I really felt connected.
I think the characters interactions in Command Mission are definitely the biggest pull, at least for me! I always like running around and talking to NPCs when I play a new game. It’s a fun easy way for developers to slip in a bit of worldbuilding into their game, and the earlier MMX games didn’t really have that (though I know the MM0 series does, which is also cool).
I’m sorta ambivalent about some of the new characters (I kept trying to like Spider, but I just can’t bring myself to care about him), but I love Marino and Cinnamon! We can always use more gals in this series! I adore the interactions between Cinnamon and Zero especially; they’ve got such opposing personalities, but they get along pretty well! It’s really sweet. (Speaking of- I still love Wint’s comic interpretation of one of their conversations).
Do you think command mission would have been better if it weren't a turn-based rpg?
Hmm, I don’t think it’s fair for me to say to be honest! I’ve only watched playthroughs, and watching isn’t the same as playing (though the playthrough I recently started is a lot more detailed than the one I watched in the past, so maybe that’ll give me a better idea of the gameplay). The way it looks, I don’t think I’d personally be a fan, but again, I haven’t played it so I can’t say for sure. I liked EXE’s style of playing, and I am a fan of RPGs, so who knows! Maybe it would be fun.
(tbh, I think CM would’ve been better if it didn’t suffer from the “neutral face during an important / heartfelt cutscene” syndrome, but X7/X8 had that problem too)
