Assassin's Creed AU continued from here @starlightskuld
One didn’t become close to the Templar Grand Master simply by being. Maruxia had come far from his initial position as a mere lad with money, a nobleman’s son whose father had curried favour with the templars in his time and pushed his son to follow suit.
War and bloodshed hadn’t been his cup of tea when he’d just joined their ranks, no more than a mere messenger or cannon fodder at best. But he learned to be quiet and observe. And from there, he grew.
One only became a successful templar by being cunning and fast. Never be a step behind your allies, and be even further ahead of your enemies. Know thy enemy, and flay them.
Now he’d grown into a fine young man, fighting political battles rather than physical ones, though he wasn’t foolish enough to let his skills in battle dwindle, unlike some.
He knew, one day they would come for him. And he’d be ready.
And ready he was. He could hear the tread of soft leather over the roof tiles, and the gentle thump of a lithe body hitting the floor and knew what it meant. But he was headed for a place well guarded, and he knew the assassin would follow him there, or they’d have made one of their infamous air assassinations already.
“Well then, let’s see what the major has planned for us now, shall we?” He mused aloud, a smirk playing at his lips as the two guards at his sides stood to attention and they continued on their way.
Be wary, assassin; you are not the only ones capable of mounting an ambush.
