The Guardian - Muse A is a prince/princess and heir to the throne and Muse B is the commander of their guards. Muse A needs to leave for a long trip and Muse B needs to keep them safe during the journey. The problem is, they discover a plot against Muse A’s life. Will they manage to keep them safe? 

The Siege - The country is at war and the capitol is under siege. Muse A is the last living royal descent, Muse B is their faithful soldier. Muse B needs to get Muse A out of the city and back to their regrouping troops so they can take the country back. 

The Marriage - Muse A and B are both of royal blood and are forced to marry for the good of both of their worlds as it’s a part of peace declaration between the nations. They see each other for the first day on their wedding day. 

The Lover - Muse A is of royal blood, unhappily married with muse C. Muse B is a young and dashing knight/noble lady who serves in the court. Muse A takes liking in them, finding long forgotten happiness by their side. How far will they let the things go?

The Toy - Muse A is of royal blood, muse B is a low born. Muse A takes Muse B to court as an entertainment.

“You think so?” Came his inquiry, a sheepish smile pulling the corners of his lips upwards just slight. Though he insisted on constant growth, practically forcing himself to move forward from the errors he’d once made; the recognition from another of what he’d hoped true elicited a sort of joy within him he could not quite explain.

(Yet still, guilt weighed heavy on his heart -- for there so much left to say to the one who’d saved him that once.)

“I’m glad. I can only hope I don’t look the same as how I did as a child.” Was what came, paired with a small chuckle, instead. Feeble attempts to make light of all that was, for apologies never came easy, especially not to one who was unsure on where to even start.

The pain didn’t come rushing ‘til the fight had run its course; the sudden shock of injury hitting hard, his heartbeat echoing heavy in his ears. The rush of battle had been enough to ignore the deep cut upon his skin that the heartless had inflicted -- but oh, did he ever feel it now. Though it was uncommon for him to return from battle completely unscathed, this particular wound seemed more severe; the cloth he bore inevitably dyeing itself crimson hues in response to his hurt.

“-- If you’re worried, don’t be.” A single palm rose, as if waving the stranger and her comment alike off in dismissal. His other hand instead lay rest upon his bleeding wound. He was fine, he had dealt with worse. “I don’t plan on bleeding out and dying anytime soon.”

(( in regards to that last ask meme i just did... yeah, i 100% believe that though riku sees xion as who she is (with the black hair and all that), he definitely does see kairi in her, too. sometimes it’s full kairi, sometimes it’s full xion, sometimes a lil mix of both.  this was shown in the manga, as well, that he saw her as kairi.

but yea... i personally feel like the fact that she reminds him so much of kairi definitely plays a part into why he was so patient with her during days. like... he wasn’t nearly that patient w roxas, even if he did express feeling a lil bad for him at the beginning of kh2 when he was in the simulation. this can also apply to why he wasn’t really mad at namine or anything, either, even though she was the reason sora had to go to sleep in the first place.

that all being said -- i feel like riku has always had a rly soft spot for kairi. yes, him and sora are inseparable and love eo a lot, but damn if he doesn’t love kairi, too. (and no im not talking abt anything shippy here -- just genuine, friendship type love between all of ‘em.)

“Is that so,” he mused, expression unchanging from one of neutrality. (The blindfold he bore hid more than he’d expected, really; the eyes truly were the window to the soul.)

There was no denying the truth of the matter. Return to Sora, and the being that was known as ‘Xion’ – a puppet who had cut off her strings and ran free from the one’s who’d pulled her along, a replica turned into a soul and person of their own – would be no more. She would be forgotten; Namine had already told him so, and he knew Xion was no stranger to this fact, too.

It was a difficult choice, he knew this. To ask one to forget everything they had grown to know and call their own was a nearly impossible task; a burden that if he bore, he’d second guess himself. Still, despite the urgency of the matter, he couldn’t get himself to push more than his simple requests. The other just looked so much like her -- he swore, he saw traces of sunset red in Xion’s hair and whispers of a smile all too similar to the girl he’d once known -- that he couldn’t bring himself to use any more force. He had to be patient.

“You know – memories themselves never really fade,” he began again, taking a step forward towards the other. He’d found himself speaking without second thought, repeating words that the memory witch had once told him, almost as if they were rehearsed. “They will always still be there, inside him. Who you are -- that will never disappear for good. You will forever be you.”

Skuld looked up from her book upon hearing her name. A look of confusion appearing on her face upon seeing the silverette standing there. She was still slightly clueless on who everyone in class was. More so on her partner for the semester project since she had yet to meet him. Although now it seemed like she finally got to meet him.

“Sorry. Yes I’m Skuld and it’s nice to officially meet you Riku.” She said apologizing and answering his question. “I’m really sorry I didn’t answer sooner. I was confused on who you were until you said your name.”

He waved a hand dismissively. “It’s fine. I almost though I had the wrong girl myself.” Might as well make light of the situation, he supposed. Skuld seemed kind enough, despite the awkwardness of initial encounters that inevitably stuck.

“Likewise. May I sit?” He motioned to the seat beside her this time, shifting in his spot. Man, how he wished he was back home -- things really were so much simpler with his friends, weren’t they? “We should probably start brainstorming as soon as possible. The due date will sneak up on us before we know it.”

A past spent drowning in a sea of darkness seemed to mean less and less these days. Despite bearing a soul once tainted to its core by nightshade monstrosities he’d once to believe to hold beneath his control, Riku had yet to see a specific kind of hurt. For all that he’d experienced and bore, he’d yet to see someone die. 

Nevertheless, here he was. The growth he’d claimed – the road to dawn, an oath to protect those he cared for –  amounted to nothing. He’d failed yet again, failed to protect someone that he should have. Though it was only a mere civilian who lacked personal connection to him, and though it was not his fault that the heartless had attacked before he’d been able to catch up to them; the guilt bore into his spine like a knife nevertheless. It was a sin scarred against his heart he was not willing to forgive.

He should have been there to save them.

The sudden speech of another, another stranger at that, seemed nearly mocking. Despite its honesty, Riku did not wish to hear it. What use was the title of ‘master’, was all he thought, if his incapabilities consistently shone through? He was nothing but a fool attempting to play a role unfit, and heavy lay the burden of undeserved mastery. 

“Just because it’s a part of life… doesn’t make it right.” Was all he could mutter through gritted teeth, back turned to the other, simply wishing things hadn’t worked out the way they did.

His temper flared at that, his tone ringing with anger and indignation.  “That’s how you think you’re going to get what you want?” He shot back. “Threats? You’re going to threaten me? Ha.” His laughter was hollow. Mocking, but lacking in sincerity.  “And here I was hearing about how much you changed, what a hero you are, and how you walked the road to dawn… that’s all a load, isn’t it? You’re still just me. Everything that was put into me is still there. Still festering in you.” A Corridor sprang to life beside him, small and flat against the ground in a way that was more like a hole in the ground then a door. The replica raised one foot above it. To him, a normal Riku move would have been to fight him, or duck out without another word. He’d be different, for now.

“Give me one good reason why I shouldn’t just dive right now.”

“It’s not a threat. It’s the truth.”

The words his other hissed mimicked those of the seeker of dark who’d once resided within him; speech that once provoked him and his rage to extents he’d never expected to soar. And yet, he’d learnt to shed that skin -- to stop caring about what a man shroud in darkness spit. Yet somehow, the prickling anger cursing through his veins made swift returns as he heard himself utilise those very same taunts.

Perhaps he really hadn’t changed as much as he thought -- ?

“Maybe you’re right. Maybe I am the same. I’m no hero,” he admitted, arms crossing across his chest. “I’m just a kid playing pretend. A failure.” 

But -- still. He couldn’t falter just yet. “I may not be a hero... but at least I’m not a coward, like you. You just keep running, instead of facing the truth. You haven’t grown one bit -- you’re still a fake, a failed replica that refuses to grow, right til the end. Too scared to take an opportunity even when it’s being handed to you.”

Two could play at this game.

Weeks upon weeks of ignored applications and failed interviews seemed to pile up quick; so much that the eventual achievement of a part-time job hadn’t even elicited any joy in Riku -- moreso just a sense of ‘about damn time’. College didn’t pay itself, unfortunately, so he’d been more than happy to accept a job at a nearby coffee shop, just a few minutes walk away from his dorm. It wasn’t a placement he’d necessarily expected, nor preferred, but beggars couldn’t be choosers. (Or in Riku’s case, college kids who lived off 99 cent ramen that tasted like salted cardboard on the daily couldn’t be choosers.)

Although his interview with the manager had been odd, to say the least -- they were a bit of a scatterbrain, enough to notice from brief first exchanges -- Riku walked into his first day with an open mind. Despite never having visited the shop aside from the single time he’d popped for an interview, it seemed like a decent place; not too busy, and cozy. He figured he'd survive.

Today, he’d been instructed to train under another worker -- ‘that one there, she’ll teach you the ropes’ was all his manager had offered, before shuffling back into his office without another word. And so, Riku had done just that, sauntering up to his new coworker lingering behind the cash, offering a quick nod as greeting.

“Hey-- name’s Riku. The boss said you’ll be training me today.”

Optics glowing hues of teal glanced away, the slightest warmth of visible embarrassment dusting pink across his features; just barely there, you’d have to stare back to notice. He hadn’t even realised his own lingering gaze, though who could put him to blame? 

“It’s nothing.”

But it wasn’t 'nothing'. Oh, the thoughts that swam within – how alike to both Sora and Roxas this youth’s featured mimicked (though it was the other way around, truly), and Riku could not quite get over this. How far did things go; how deep were the effects of sharing a heart with another for a lifetime, and how much of Sora was... really him?

How much of Sora’s words had been his, Ventus, this stranger who held the same gaze and morality as Riku’s best friend? The youth wasn’t about to doubt Sora – no, he had no right to – but he could not help but let his mind wander. The inquiries came and go -- mindless speculation of how much of the memories and childhood promises he’d shared with his friend had been truth, and not simply something brought out from the hearts within him. Ideas and notions set only to mirror friendships of the past, that Riku held no part in; how deep were their effects, he could not help but wonder.

(Was any of it for real, or not?)

“Sorry ‘bout that.” Was all he could finish with, gaze shifting away, refusing to comment further at the statement at hand. He needed to stop thinking so damn much.
