Sting vs Hogan was built up for well over a fucking year. Hogan was the villain trying to destroy WCW and Sting was the hero trying to save WCW. Classic good vs evil storytelling. All you had to do was make sure good won with no bullshit in the end.
It still baffles me how WCW fucked up the main event of Starrcade so badly. All you needed to do was have Sting go over clean and it would have been an amazing pay off to the angle. They could have had Hogan beat up Sting just as long as Sting wins clean in the end. How do you fuck that up so badly???? Rhetorical question I know how I’m just baffled by the bullshit.
I can’t wait to hear Eric Bischoff justify the mess that was the final Nitro before Starrcade 97 and then justify the garbage that was that pay per view where the majority of your top wrestlers were in the crowd and not wrestling in matches, you had Kevin Nash no show, you had Konan no show, you had Randy Savage in a random ass tag match that made no sense, AND then you find a way to fuck over one of the biggest main events ever which was seemingly impossible cause all you had to fucking do was have Sting win clean in the middle of the ring that is ALL YOU NEEDED TO DO.
But I’m sure Bischoff will find away to justify all of it much like he justified the finger poke of doom and not admit that it was a terrible idea and that he mega fucked up. It is the Eric Bischoff way after all the fucking used car salesman motherfucker.
Once the nWo started in WCW that was literally all the announcers talked about. I’m watching Starrcade 1997 and there is a great match between Eddie Guerroro and Dean Malenko going and the announcers are still talking about nWo bullshit. Like could you call the match please????
