Pretty sure I’m late to the party, but I saw these going around and I thought it was be cool to show these! Years (and comments) in the captions
After that last one (end of 2013) I stopped doing regular digital art entirely and switched to doing pixel art, which I have below.
(also sorry there are a ton of these)
Jan 2013, first pixel art
September 2013, revisited pixel art (hadn’t done any since those first few in Jan) and decided I really liked it.
December 2013, first somewhat complex animation
Early 2014, I have officially been engulfed by pixel art
Late 2014 (I saw Draca have that first one in their sig not long ago and I bout died)
mid 2015, eye sparkle fever (also started doing thicker lines)
Late 2015 (aka now)
So uh, hey honestly we all start out really horrible? And me personally I am not the person who draws every day all the time, I’ve gone months without drawing. I’m definitely not your person who is constantly drawing and improving, but despite all that, hey I still got better, and it still took practice and experimenting and other artists that inspired me to get better.
And I guess I’m just saying, that just because you don’t draw all the time like others that doesn’t mean you won’t get better. But yeah practice does make you better and I can see that going through my art. The years I drew a lot, the improvement was really swift, and other areas it stagnated because I didn’t draw, but don’t ever feel improvement is impossible.
I’ll admit right here, I’ve known people whos art was not as good as mine when I met them, and watched their art go within just a couple years, surpass mine at such a rate I felt like it had just shot up into space and I’m sitting in a hole in the ground on some dirt. but that doesn’t make you a bad artist, I feel like if I go much further it’ll start to sound like I’m spitting out generalized happy comments to make you feel inspired, but my point is, I’ve somehow managed to get better despite everything, so don’t give up on yourself.
i wanted to join in on the art stuff!! it’s always nice to look back on your old art and see how far you’ve come, and remember everything you’ve overcome.
I’m loving all these art progression posts folks <3
I move that we tag them with “start somewhere cs” (with spaces) for anyone who wants to see them all :)
If you do decide to tag, make sure it’s in one of your first five tags!
My first ever Oekaki drawing, and my most recent Oekaki drawing.
Everyone has to start somewhere. No one is going to pick up a pencil (or a computer mouse) for the first time and turn out something incredible. All you can do is keep on practicing and ignore the immature trolls who try to put you down.
So, I’m going to keep on drawing, and I hope that those of you who are being insulted by that loser will continue on, as well.
2003 vs 2015
We all start somewhere.
EDIT: Added some more to show a more gradual change; tried to stick with pieces that featured horse-like characters so it was easier to see the differences :)
