do you have any advice for playing alto clarinet? I'm pretty short and small and I have to play it for evaluation next week on some tough pieces (Shostakovich to be exact).

1.  Use lots of air. It takes more than soprano.

2. Experiment with different amounts of mouthpiece you take in. Depending on how much you already take in, it might be helpful to take in more or less. 

3. Be sure not to bite. On the larger clarinets, you need to stay more open. When you bite while playing soprano, you get a worse tone. With the larger clarinets, biting can actually cause squeaks.

Ah, yes. The tag is "olympics" because I actually did start out watching the Olympics - first 2012, then 1996. After that, though, I decided to start watching competitions year by year, but I kept the "olympics" tag because 1. People who didn't want to see my gymnastics ramblings were already blacklisting "olympics" and I didn't want to make them change for every competition I was watching, and 2. I didn't want to clog up the "gymnastics" tag, whereas the "olympics" tag is always being used, and thus I wasn't too worried about clogging it up.

Way later, I realized I could have done something like "gym lb," but by that time my "olympics" tag was hundreds of pages long, and maybe it's dumb, but I like having it all there together.

But to answer your question, I'm watching the 2011 Nastia Liukin Supergirl Cup!

First, I'm so sorry you had to go through something like that, you and no one else deserves that. As for my tagging, thanks! I always like to keep track of things and I'm sure it helps people who blacklist stuff.
