do you have any advice for playing alto clarinet? I'm pretty short and small and I have to play it for evaluation next week on some tough pieces (Shostakovich to be exact).
1. Use lots of air. It takes more than soprano.
2. Experiment with different amounts of mouthpiece you take in. Depending on how much you already take in, it might be helpful to take in more or less.
3. Be sure not to bite. On the larger clarinets, you need to stay more open. When you bite while playing soprano, you get a worse tone. With the larger clarinets, biting can actually cause squeaks.
