A Shorty Interview with The Startup Breakfast co-host Emma Milner
The Shorty Awards are constantly honoring innovation and we were extremely excited to recently participate in The Startup Breakfast. Every first Thursday of each month, a group of smart startup professionals meet for a delicious breakfast. The lovely Emma Milner (@emmilner), co-host of this startup breakfast discusses how this meetup came about and why it's important to her.
Shorty Awards: How long have you been hosting this monthly Startup Breakfast
Emma Milner: My co-host, Brett Martin (@brett1211) and I hosted the first Startup Breakfast in February of 2012. We actually just celebrated our 1 year anniversary!! Recently we were lucky enough to add our wonderful friend, Bec Bliss (@becbliss), as a fellow co-host and are looking forward to hosting many, many more breakfasts in the future!
SA: What made you want to start hosting this monthly Startup Breakfast?
EM: Both Brett and I have found it hard to stay in touch with all the amazing people that we've met in the startup space. In addition to staying connected ourselves we wanted to give something back to the community and hopefully help others connect. We know that attendees have gotten jobs through connections they made at the breakfasts and that makes us very happy and proud!
SA: What's your favorite part about hosting this monthly Startup Breakfast?
EM: My favorite part about the Startup Breakfast is definitely seeing people having fun and building new relationships. We’ve seen people get hired, make friends and find inspiring opportunities through our breakfasts. Not to mention our never-ending supply of coffee, which is a must at 8.45AM!
SA: Is anyone allowed to come to this breakfast?
EM: We're looking for people working on things that are fun, new and/or impactful. Initially those folks tended to be tech entrepreneurs but we're open to anyone in the startup ecosystem. We welcome those interested to send us a note telling us why you’d like to join and if we think you'd be a good fit we’ll be sure to add you to the invite list.
If you or someone you know is interested in joining this fantastic, intelligent group of individuals for breakfast, please email: [email protected]. Remember to come hungry!
