It was quiet. And it was dark.
The telepath was so, so alone.
But her friends were gone, her family long since moved on. Everyone had left her, and now she truly understood what loneliness was. Even with the voices of New York City around her, Iris didn't feel any better. Those people didn't know her, they didn't care; as far as they were concerned, she didn't even exist.
So for another night, the telepath sat alone. Hoping for something that would never come. Something as simple as a friend.

They ripped the star out of her body and put her back into the night sky.
Iris froze in place, her eyes unblinking. The words spoken were ones she had been afraid of since day one. She knew the Stars didn’t know or care about her attachment to Silver. But… that didn’t lessen the blow.
Her legs fell from under her, Iris’ hands catching the rest of her from falling on the hardwood floor. Her breaths were short- her exhales filled with small pained sounds. The tears flowed from her eyes, the choking sobs coming afterward.

Her voice barely made it out through her tears, her mind desperately grabbing for the connection that was no longer there. Iris sat back, her arms wrapped around her chest desperately, feeling like she’d fall apart if she let go.
She knew this would happen… it was bound to.…But Iris never expected it to be so soon.
