the other day i read Al's post on @the-pitwall about the amount of gear changes made per lap at a number of circuits. it was interesting and it made me want to count how many times i shift gears when going places (less interesting, more stupid, completely useless aka my type of thing)
i finally did it today and i have to change gears 53 times to go to my sister's house 8,3 km away
#ofc i drive normally i respect the law and the other people on the road#that's close to the amount of gear shift for a lap in canada (52) even if the track is quite shorter (4.3km)#the only track close enough in length is spa which is 7km long but only has 42 changes#if we look at the average gear changes per km then the most similar track is monza with 6.2 changes/km vs 6.3 to my sister's house#this last bit probably means nothing at all as there's surely a lot of things making these two values not comparable#but hey im not a race engineer or a statian#statistishian#sastilqldbahakdlg#STATISTICIAN#i had never realised that i changed gears that often ? the numbers in Al's post seemed huge#all of this is completely useless but it kept me occupied for 15 minutes in total yay#i forgot to say this but nothing falsified the count (like a tractor for example)
