You know something that’s fuck up !

Under the Canadian government my little cousin (my cousin son) is « more » indigenous then both his parents and his half brother even tho they all live in the reserve, are very active in their community, participate in their culture and etc. But because of the stupid blood status law they are « less indigenous » then their own son like for for fuck sakes they are and should be treated as indigenous point blank.

Make it make sense !

So just a reminder how many races can you list that have to carry ID to prove their race? Who was the last group who had to carry papers and sorted by race hm? Who was forced into Ghettos? Experimented on? Mass genocide?

I don't have to respect or a wave a piece of plastic the government gives me as a brown woman to prove how native I am to deserve their attention

My Status Card situation

I have made the decision not to get my status card.  Why? While free education would be nice (ha), I've never been personally disadvantaged because of my heritage. I look white, mostly, except for the occasional person who asks me if I am of asian decent.  I've never been in an economic position where I've had to resort to living on a reserve, although I know I would be welcome.   Mostly, I'm just not an asshole.  My Métis ancestors suffered a great deal, and many First Nations peoples continue to suffer because of the deplorable position centuries of genocide, racism, and deprecation continues to keep them in.   But that particular form of culture-destroying oppression isn't one I've ever been affected by at a personal level, and I think I can help more as an ally than a selfish leech. 

I think I just needed to put that down on paper somewhere, so I have a brief, clear explanation the next time someone asks me if I can get a discount on smokes for them.
