The Duchess of Marlborough dies: Gladys Deacon was a socialite known to be "the most beautiful woman in the world" due to her crystal blue eyes, creamy complexion and classic features. She was sought after by Kings, Prince's and the gentry. At the age of 14 she saw the Duke of Marlborough and set out to be his wife, dispite his having one at the time. Her tenacity paid off and they were eventually married, but the words "happily ever after" were not to be forthcoming. Having achieved all her dreams, her life started to unravel. She became obsessed with raising dogs and filled her estate with them to the point that it destroyed her marriage. She had wax injections in her face in hopes of maintaining her beauty and love, but this early form of plastic surgery failed, giving her a deformed face. She became unbalanced and was known to bring a gun to the dinner table in case she needed to kill her husband. Eventually she was barred from the estate and institutionalized.
