Working on this black walnut and maple stave for Greg Roberts of GA.
Snare shell
I’d love to build some good drums, someday. This was a good first try - learned some things. And it’s almost a pretty decent circle.
Made this out of bamboo flooring scraps from the house we’re working on.
One good lesson to remember - rip the bevels in one long piece and then cut it into staves, rather than cut bevels on each stave. For one thing, it’s faster. For another thing, since the staves are so short, and my saw is so low quality, when the cut is finished the stave dips into the blade slightly because the surface it is riding on isn’t totally right. Also, ripping short lengths of narrow pieces is a little dicey.
