Graphic Zone has moved to the end of the issue this time. I like the Tekno in a pear tree one. As well as some more Megadroid fanart, because he’s gone but certainly not forgotten

Graphic Zone has moved to the end of the issue this time. I like the Tekno in a pear tree one. As well as some more Megadroid fanart, because he’s gone but certainly not forgotten
All three of our stories this issue follow the winter theme, which means that poor Kitching is dragged back from his other plans to work on a oneshot for the main story again. Looks like the Emerald Hill Zone still exists in the “back in my days” era of British Mobius, where every Christmas was a White Christmas. We get a lot less of those in real life now, what with global warming
Honestly, if I was a kid on Mobius who knew I could just call Sonic the Hedgehog, I’d probably get involved in some other kids’ plot to prank call him as well. Which I assume is what’s happening here, because just look at that badnik
I mentioned this in another recent issue, but we are now in the era of Robot Wars being a big thing on British TV, so kids making robots seems like a good plot for an issue to go along with that trend, because I bet there were a lot of kids trying to make robots in 1998
About the most damage this thing does to Sonic is when it starts malfunctioning and falling apart
I’m laughing so hard at Sonic letting these kids think that they killed him and that they’re going to be arrested. +100 trauma for the youth of Emerald Hill. This might be StC’s Sonic’s biggest dick move yet and I love it
He thankfully doesn’t leave them stewing very long before revealing that he’s okay
They just wanted to meet Sonic! They’re his fans!
See, he’s a good ‘un after all
We end on Sonic able to reflect on how this is his first proper Christmas free from Robotnik and how he plans to enjoy it. Honestly, as much as I love a good ol’ “Sonic and Eggman need to fight each other and it feels wrong without that” plot, I’m also loving this recent trend of Sonic being able to see just how much he can get out of life in the absence of Robotnik’s rule. It’s just a nice spin on it
And I know I’m always joking about Kitching being condemned to oneshot prison when he wants to write multi-parters, but the guy still writes good oneshots! I had a lot of fun with this one. It was a nice low-stakes adventure!
Amy & Tekno aren’t about to slow down on their groovy dimension-hopping just because it’s Christmas. I also like how I assume Amy was probably intended to be wearing the same outfit for a lot of this arc, but because it gets coloured differently from time to time it looks like they’re swapping out her outfits anyway
This background is funky. I’m not sure what’s going on with all the stuff on the ground, but I like it
This is exactly what Christmas is like when you work retail. I can promise you that
It only takes Amy and Tekno one round with the singing snowman punching them for them to realise that they’re stuck in a nightmare
This guy’s nightmare, to be exact
They realise that they need to speedrun giving this guy therapy before he wakes up and they die from being stuck in his dream. For real though, losing your job at any time is scary, especially around Christmas and when you’ve got a family to support. Poor guy…
The girls win and are able to move onto their next crisis in the nick of time!
Everything’s going to be okay! I also like that both of the parent aliens have stubble. Queer alien win!
But it’s not over yet! The girls are home for the holidays!
A Christmas party with the promise of more dangerous adventures in the new year. When Amy & Tekno first left on these adventures, they sort of just had to commit without telling anyone, so it is nice that we get to see them go home to fill the others in on what they’ve been up to all this time
This story was fun as well. I like that the art was trying something different that we hadn’t seen in StC before and I’m always here for Amy & Tekno solving problems by talking stuff through just as much as I’m here for them punching stuff
The third and final story for these festivities is a Tails one, seeing him get back from the Nameless Zone to fight Baa Humbug the Psycho Sheep! Honestly, why is everyone having Lanolin discourse when they could be talking about Baa Humbug the Psycho Sheep?
Aww no, I don’t like these superhero parody stories. Can’t we leave this stuff in the Special Zone?
Okay, so Captain Christmas is a little funny
Could this be… a con?
I like Tails’s angry face on the second panel. They don’t leave us in suspense too long, revealing that Captain Christmas indeed used to be one of the many mobians in StC who worked for Robotnik. It’s also rare to see Kintobor appear in a Tails story
They’re really just gonna say that she wants to have his puppies in a kids comic, huh? The 90s were a different time
Just toss a snowball at him
Everyone realises that they didn’t like this guy, they just liked his body spray
We end this story with another reminder that Santa is an established character in StC. But I’m much more interested in the promise of a Super Sonic story next time!
It’s another Christmas issue and that means festive-themed stories. Including Sonic getting punched by a robot in the snow. Merry Christmas!
