STD and Stupidity

I had a patient few days back, he is a 48 year old business man who travels a lot. He is married with kids. He has Gonococcal urethritis, chlamydia, chancroid and condyloma, among other things. He had that air that could only be interpreted as arrogance, but he quickly explained himself as a go getter. With those many STD’s on his chart, I believed him, and suppressed a laugh.

He said he only gets “clean” girls, with that he meant expensive ones. He said he pays P15,000 to 20,000 a night for each one, and he is'nt sure how he got all those microbes. I listened ofcourse. What’s a doctor to do. I did a physical, and clinically, his diseases were screaming, taunting. I dont even need a diagnostic to make an assessment, but I was careful not to be negligent in practice, so I requested for a full std profile. With diagnostics, treatment, and minor surgical procedures, I quoted around P80,000 with no downtime. No productivity loss. And he said, “WTF! That expensive?!”

The look I gave him was something he will never, ever forget in his miserable lifetime.
