Happy Saint Dwynwen's day, a day to celebrate love, kindness, and connection!
Born in the 5th century, Saint Dwynwen became known as the Welsh patron Saint of lovers, with pilgrims travelling to her small church off the coast of Anglesey.
The modern tradition, though, only dates back to the 1960s.

Today is Welsh Valentines Dydd Santes Dwynwen Hapus! I hope you get to spend it with someone special, even if that's yourself :) It's too late for a St Dwynwens day order but there's still time before Valentines day next month and lots of options across my shops ;) St Dwynwen was a fourth century Welsh princess who lived in what is now the Brecon Beacons National Park. Dwynwen was rather unlucky in love and despite being promised to a prince, fell in love with a local boy. Her story ends in heartbreak with Dwynwen fleeing to Anglesey to become a nun where she spent her days praying for true lovers to have better luck than she did. St Dwynwen is now known as the Welsh patron saint of lovers, and each year on 25th January we celebrate St Dwynwen's Day - Taken from Caerphilly county borough council #wales #stdwynwensday #welshholiday #madeinwales #ethicalwedding #handmadewedding #minimalwedding #sterlingsilver #recycledsilver #madeinwales #weddingrings #minimalweddingrings #classicweddingrings #weddingbands https://www.instagram.com/p/Cn2I315IRZl/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
Did you know today is St Dwynwen's Day? The Welsh patron saint of lovers. Since I don't have a 'lover' to celebrate, I decided to make a little collage of the special people in my life who I get to call my family and friends 💜💜 I'm also celebrating the love I have found for myself over the past 2+ years. It's not been easy to change the negative, self-destructive mindset, but I'm getting there. Who do you love? 🥰 #stdwynwensday #santesdwynwen #welshbloggers #cardiffbloggers #lifestyleblogger #lifeofacrazymum #mindfulness #mindbodysoul #livelaughlove #loveyourself #positivevibes #positivity #selfcare #gratitude #inspiration #bestfriends #familygoals #lovelife (at Vale of Glamorgan) https://www.instagram.com/lifeofacrazymum/p/CZKT_sZgM0O/?utm_medium=tumblr
Dydd Santes Dwynwen Hapus! | Happy St Dwynwen's Day! ❤🏴 St Dwynwen's Day is basically the Welsh Valentine’s Day for us so to all my other Welsh followers happy day of love. 🥰 Who is St Dwynwen? As the Welsh patron saint of lovers, St Dwynwen is our equivalent of St Valentine. St Dwynwen (Santes Dwynwen) was a fourth-century Welsh princess who lived in what is now the Brecon Beacons National Park. Dwynwen was rather unlucky in love, so she became a nun. She prayed for true lovers to have better luck than she did. She also wished that she would never marry (I like that part as I don’t intend to ever marry either). 💗 Her name means, 'she who leads a blessed life'. 💗 She’s also the patron saint of sick animals. *I’ve tagged some Welsh accounts for you to follow 🏴❤️💚❤️ • • • #wales #stdwynwensday #cymru #love #valentine #valentinesday #welsh #welshie #welshvegans #waleshistory #welshhistory #facts #history #lovers #valentineday #valentinesday2022 #bemine #bemyvalentine (at Brighton) https://www.instagram.com/p/CZJ74yRKLle/?utm_medium=tumblr
