Clutching the staff tightly to his chest, Peter scampered a good distance from the scene of destruction as possible. Any creatures that saw him dash away with the summoner’s staff had lost track of him by now, thank goodness. He found a nice alley to hideaway in, with the sounds of screaming and rock slamming against rock only faint on the wind now. He’d be safe here, for at least a moment. Which was hopefully all he needed.
He dug into his bag, pulling out the textbook he had on him (thank God). He was no summoner, but the staff itself was already charged with magic. If he did this correctly, he’d pull the hero he needed to help to him.
After refreshing himself on the correct page, he set it down, open, on the ground to the right. He took some chalk out of his bag, before etching a circle into the ground, neatly and precisely. He rose again, taking a deep breathe before concentrating himself on the staff- on the magic within it. Easy... Theoretically. After a moment, the circle drawing began to shimmer. There was something!
... Before it flickered out. He sighed, before concentrating again. Everyone was counting on him. With a little help, this could be his chance! Come on! The ground began to shimmer once more, and then the circle itself radiated with energy. Just a little more...
There! The ground radiated brightly, a droning noise filling the air as light took it’s place above the circle. Formed at the center of the being, the spirit began to take shape, from the ground up, as the owner of the body was formed into Peter’s world. He’d done it! They were being summoned!
... Slowly, the smile drifted from Peter’s face as he stared on to the blue spiny looking creature. “Oh. Oh, you’re not who I wanted.” Where could he have gone wrong?
