FFXIV macros , your steam deck, and YOU

I wanted to write something up about this because I like using my deck at work but some things are still really wonky. PLUS I can’t find ANYTHING about this anywhere else. I wanted to set up my crafting macros so I can let it run while I work. So turns out..

There is no COPY feature in GAME MODE.

If you try opening a browser ontop of FFXIV you cannot interact with it or search anything. You also CANNOT copy anything from the steam notes feature. Which makes copying and making macros 110% harder. There is also a website where you can make a macro to set your hotbars, but you need the macro to input it. You could also type everything out in the window, or even sync your macros with the included feature in the character select. But I didn’t want to mess with my character settings for my PC since I play with m/kb

The Solution: Desktop mode!

What I recommend doing before entering desktop mode is enabling and setting the back paddle buttons to CTRL+C and CTRL+V respectively (I used L4,R4) I also recommend in FFXIV going to System Settings > Controller and enabling paste with LTRT, this will just be an extra option

Opening the game in desktop mode, its a bit wonky at first but if you can get in game. ( I had to spam A) the game should pick up your controller. Another problem that arises is that you can’t get back to the desktop no matter what button you press. Set the game in WINDOWED MODE You’ll be able to access your internet browser. You’ll be able to get to Teamcraft or your designated Macro website and you’ll be able to copy it! You’ll be able to paste into the macro box. If the cursor isn’t working you can hold the STEAM button and move the trackpad and you should be able to control the cursor in the game window. If you want to access the desktop again, click the current open window on the taskbar. You might have to tap on the screen!! or click it with steam + trackpad

I don’t use linux or anything so its still all very new to me!!
