In our "Objects of the Mind" group, we are making a network of glasses that have four cameras on the front, sides, and back. This network of glasses allows you to see yourself through a third person point of view (from other people's glasses cameras) and allows you to re-experience your memories and moments through other people's perspectives.
Chicago Cultural Center to open Popup Makerspace for Students as part of Chicago Summer of Learning
From Monday, July 22 until Saturday, July 27, 2013, teens participating in the Chicago Summer of Learning will gain access to an exciting pop-up makerspace at the Chicago Cultural Center.
The STEAM Studio will serve as a space for youth to use a variety of design and production tools to create artifacts and earn digital badges under the theme of STEAM – Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math.
Following a week of intensive workshops, youth will have the opportunity to present their creations at the Cultural Center Showcase on July 27, and again at the CSOL Summer Showcase on August 16. Youth will also document the fair using digital media. In addition to showcasing the Chicago Summer of Learning, the STEAM Studio will highlight youth engagement and collaboration between and with organizations within the Hive Chicago Learning Network.
The STEAM Studio will feature three main components: the Fashion and Media House, the Open House and the Specialty Shop.
The Fashion and Media House will be a hub of creating multimedia fashion for the Design Team, a group of 20 high-performing badge earners selected based on entry-level badges earned prior to the STEAM Studio opening. The Design Team's multimedia artifacts will be worn and displayed in a runway show as part of the CSOL Summer Showcase on August 16.
The Open House will provide a variety of STEAM-related tools for youth to experiment with learning through making, including a 3D printer, vinyl cutters, jewelry design tools and robotics. This space will be available through appointments and walk-ins throughout the week.
Partners from the Hive Chicago Learning Network will offer hands-on programming in the Specialty Shop, supplementing both the Design Team and the Open House by providing assistance with programs within and beyond STEAM themes.
The STEAM Studio will be an interactive learning space for those within and beyond the walls of the studio itself – a wall of windows will provide a "fishbowl effect" where passersby can see the Connected Learning in action.
Youth who want to connect with the STEAM Studio online can go to http://steamstudio.net/ to upload their digital creations, comment on and review their peers' work and 'like' their favorite artifacts.
