Steamer Rugs
At least two times while reading through the American Inquiry, I have heard of women being handed a “rug” as they got into lifeboats. I knew this wouldn’t be an actual rug (unless some passenger had the foresight to save a priceless oriental rug or something). So now I present to you a “steamer rug” from the White Star Line (above).
Definition: a lap robe, especially for use on board a passenger ship for keeping warm on deck.
