So.. The Cure played in a festival last Saturday (?) and I couldn't attend because economy sucks and I'm almost broke (already lost my chance to see Billy Idol as well 😔😭) but photos appeared all over social media -videos too- and I can't stop smiling at Robert's T-shirt with our Sun in it (a version wearing make up like his, but it is still our Sun)
So I decided to share a fun fact about out flag.
When you grow up in Argentina one of the first stories about the creation of our flag is that Manuel Belgrano was looking up at the sky and that inspired him to make it like that.
In case you don't know our flag, here it is:
Of course, this is a lie.
Not only our official first flag wasn't like this (it was 2 squares put together, one sky-blue and another one white) but the story is quite different.
The main reason why Belgrano was asked to create a flag was because it was the time of the Revolution (circa 1810) and it was impossible to identify our people -especially soldiers- from those that still answered to Spain. (Reason why San Martín also created the uniform for his soldiers, the Granaderos)
The Sky-blue and white came from the House of Borbón (the royal bloodline that rules Spain). But the most interesting thing is the Sun.
Belgrano put the Sun because it was the Inca's god. He wanted to replace the Spanish King with an Inca one. Cool. Of course no-one liked the idea, but the symbol of the Sun-god still remains.
