does anyone know any good ways to calm yourself down after something sets off your OCD?
Hi there,
I did a bit of research and I found this piece written online which I think offers some good suggestions.
People with OCD and other anxieties tend to worry about things in the future. 'Did I contract a desease?', 'will my mother die because I did not check my lock on the door again?', 'will I die soon because I didn't wash my hands enough or the right way?', but what about the now?How do you live now?Right now, you are not ill, your mum is still alive, it is a beautiful day. There is no way you can control all the things in your life, no matter how hard you try or how painful it is for you to realize that. Noone knows if you are still alive tomorrow, if you will get sick or not.
But you can do one thing, find out what calms you down now, today, from your fears. Remember a great day you had with a loved one, your favorite place on earth, the beautiful flowers that grow in your garden every year, having a relaxed evening with friends barbequeing, go for a swim, a walk, a cycle if you can and focus away from your OCD to the now.You have done whatever you could to prevent you from getting hurt, the rest is out of your control. Try to let go and focus away, even for a short while, onto something beautiful in your life.
Other than that it could be helpful to try belly breathing. ocdfree also has some great links to websites with helpful information and forum which might be worth checking out as well.
Followers do you have any other suggestions?
