Varric's the one who tells him. Hawke has brought family with them. It's only polite to make himself known to this Asteria, he thinks. Besides that, he has questions. Questions that the Tale of the Champion didn't answer--and that he can't trust Varric to. The Champion seems so busy. He hopes that Asteria will be more loose lipped. Of course, he wants to know her story as well. The Tale of the Champion didn't mention a cousin.
He originally had a page tail her, but when he eventually gets around to finding her, she's right under his nose. She's come to the library, where he's currently researching The Chant.
"Hello," he smiles. "You're a new face."

"I have... some bad news. Or some good news, perhaps. My family has gotten word to me. They want to visit. Maybe even stay. We can.. use them, if you'd like. Or send them back from whence they came. Either way, they'll be hard to get rid of. I could use your expertise here. And your advice."

"I... am sorry for this. This situation cannot be pleasant for you. I have tried to afford you every luxury, however. And I will visit you, if you like, as often as I can. I understand if you do not wish to see me, however, and I am prepared to keep my distance."
