Steel Fear is the new book from the team of Brandon Webb and John David Mann. "Finn is a Navy Seal that ends up on the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln. His last mission is fuzzy and he's not sure why he's on the ship. He finds low morale and awful leadership at the top. He also discovers that the recent suicides are not be what everyone thinks. And he might be the prime suspect and the only one who can find the killer." What happens when there's a serial killer on a ship of 5000 people? Webb and Mann give us a tense story - one with a "killer reveal" because you will never guess the killer. Great character in Finn - the misplaced SEAL. He just wants to find his memory gaps - What exactly happened on his last op? Did he kill innocent civilians? Why won't anyone talk to him? The authors do a great job portraying the chaos and creepiness of a carrier. And the effects that terrible leadership can have on a crew. The story builds from many directions and POVs. There's some substance to these characters without the authors spending 50 pages on every backstory. There's just enough to get you invested. And the story is not filled with stereotypes (maybe a few misogynistic lunkheads) The final scenes are chaotic and insane (watch out for the speargun) Lots of short chapters keep the story moving. It sets up for a second book without really having a cliffhanger. Great story from Webb and Mann. Going to be one of my favorite books this year. Fans of action thrillers will love this one.
