‘STRAY’ is a collection of new ink drawings by Sydney Artist & Illustrator, Stellar Leuna. Known for her illustrations for the likes of Prada, Vans, Penguin Books and The Sydney Opera House, STRAY is a return to form for the artist. Celebrating the supernatural, surreal and female aggression that initially drew her to the craft. ‘STRAY’ will be open across 3 weeks at The Wedge Gallery, Kinokuniya Sydney. Beginning on the 4th to the 23rd of January on Level 2 of The Galeries. Please Join us for Opening Night drinks and celebrations on Thursday Evening, the 4th of January from 6PM to 9PM.

I’m really having a lot of fun focusing on using negative space and less detail/brush strokes. I’ve always been heavy on black in my work and in this I took it one step further by completely eliminating unnecessary detail to achieve a less cartoony look.

‘Some kind of Stranger’

I've always taken inspiration from my favourite music but never really felt that this was obvious in my work so I have made it a point to reflect that. 

From looking at old band merch and album art of some of my favourite 80's and 90's metal bands, I have discovered so many exciting things to add to my usual routine rather than simply inking in black. 

Typography and textures are things that I never really considered using in the past, but will probably now continue to incorporate into my work. 

This one is inspired by The Sisters of Mercy song 'Some kind of Stranger' from the album 'First and Last and Always'.
