Margaret Mildred “Kit” Kittredge is loud, bold, and ready for action! She has dreams of being a reporter and seeing the world, but her life turns upside down when the 1934 Great Depression comes to her hometown of Cincinatti, Ohio. With her father traveling to find work, her mother has to take in boarders, and she has to be more resourceful and responsible. But still, she’s not giving up her dreams that easily!Kit was first released in 2000.

Gwen Thompson is a shy violinist whose family has fallen on tough times. She’s miserable at school until brave Chrissa reaches out to her, and soon they’re standing together against bullying. Gwen was one of two companions to Chrissa, Girl of the Year for 2009.

Propaganda: She’s the only North American in the cast, so she’d be the most aware of the dolls. The movie takes place in 2017 and she’s 17 or 18 which would make her the right age to be a kid when either doll was available. I choose Kit and Gwen specifically because their stories have focus on social justice for the underprivileged and Steph’s very focused on exposing how bad homelessness in town is in her school newspaper and ran a soup kitchen at the shelter, all of which are details I think can connect to one or the other doll.
