okay I have a quite possibly CRAZY theory
but I have to get it out so here goes—what if the backup dancer, Steph, (who is played by Stephani Sosa) who played the Enchantress, is the one who gets the college scholarship??
I’m still rooting for our boi EJ but this could potentially happen! It seems like a unique twist the writers would do that most people wouldn’t expect.
also disclaimer: I didn’t have time to confirm these lines of dialogue but you get the gist
Here’s why:
Prior to going on stage, she says a line of dialogue (which is already unique enough for the dancers as it is) that is especially intriguing. “I’ve never played a role that has a name before!” To which Nini replies, “Everyone should get to say that at least once.” Meaning this will be the last time she’ll be stunned by that fact because she’s going to have a successful future. There’s always a reason writers include dialogue. Why else would they include this...?
While on stage, she performs spectacularly, incorporating her dance expertise into her performance (which was regrettably short) and she ABSOLUTELY killed it. Those moves?? That confidence?? A true star 💫
One of the few shots we see of the judge occurs during her presence on stage!!
It would be a beautiful twist of fate if a backup dancer who gave her all to the performance, who might normally be overlooked by judges watching the leads, would win the scholarship. Let’s face it, Steph’s talented, just like the other dancers
She’s also notably one of the only dancers who has had a couple of other lines of dialogue this season, one of which was “read another one Kourt.” These are rare but she keeps getting them
It might open the possibility for her to become more than just a minor character. If, say, Olivia pulls back on her amounts of screentime, then maybe a character like Steph could have more screentime as a result
Another big reason could be that the writers don’t want to lose any of the main cast. Therefore it would be easier for them to write off a dancer instead of say EJ or anyone else because of their deep storylines. Plus it might help develop EJ’s character arc of not needing scholarships or family approval to succeed. He’ll get that on his own.
Another thing is, of the only three scenes they showed us from the play, that opening scene with Steph was one of them. She was one of two actors in that scene, which is quite the spotlight for a minor character.
Steph just deserves it!!!
