Happy Birthday. Today, Oct 30, 1978 – Stephanie Izard, American chef was born. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stephanie_Izard)
Now that I’m finally back, I thought I’d give an update. I went for a quick trip to Chicago, but it was a phenomenal time. Started off bright and early by going to Little Goat Diner, where I can say that we had the most fantastic waiter (Ryder), who patiently put up with all of our questions, and in the end brought us a side of hashbrowns for free because, as he put it, we HAD to try them (followed by house made smoky chipotle hot sauce which was 10/10). I had brioche french toast topped with fried chicken and strawberries, drizzled with a bbq maple syrup. Also, they made the french toast like toad in the hole, which was super amazing. Katy had a grilled cheese sandwich. The bread itself was made with gouda, and filled with a ton of delicious things. Afterwards we checked out their in house bakery, and ended up running in to Stephanie Izard. I’ve never been impressed by a ‘famous’ chef before, but she was down to earth, knew everyone by name, and her food isn’t pretentious, despite being a Michelin recognized chef, and James Beard award winner. That night Katy and I wanted to go for real chicago style pizza, and I wanted to meet up with a long time friend that Ive not yet met in person, so we headed to Gino’s East to meet up with @theprecociouspeach - My friend Bret (my best man at my wedding) got word I was in the city and wanted to join the meet up. The more the merrier, eh?
We had to run after that and made it just in time to grab our seats before Hamilton started. I had a phenomenal view from where I sat despite it being a ‘limited view’. I wont spoil it for ya’ll, but I see why people pay $1000 per ticket on stubhub to see Hamilton. One scene sells it all (”Satisfied”). I didnt have enough time to see everything I wanted to since we only had one day (and had to get up at 4AM to leave), so I will definitely have to take a trip back. I dont think I’d want to go to Grace/Alinea, but I definitely want to check out Au Cheval, Duck Duck Goat, and Cochon Volant.
ok im ready for the conspiracy theories cuz there is NO WAY she beat 3 iron chefs on her first try its just not possible im ready to fight anyone give me the discourse fn fandom

Little Goat Diner - Chicago, IL
Patty melt
Stephanie Izard beat Morimoto at fish I never want to hear about how Richard Blais should have won top chef ever again
I made more of the mushroom salad from yesterday and then we did a marinated steak served with a salted goat caramel sauce (it’s a thing and it’s fucking delicious) and I wish I had more stomachs to eat all of this.
i’m rooting for stephanie btw bc she was the first woman to win top chef
M’s on the road again this week so it’s all about sabor de soledad, and this salad inspired by Stephanie Izard’s mango gazpacho. She has you add some sambal-coated shrimp to the soup as a garnish which I never do, but I’m going to have to in the future as it’s fucking genius: spicy but so easy to make.
