Stephen Dearborn (Caradoc's younger brother)
I'm creating a collection of fanfiction by various authors featuring Caradoc Dearborn as the main character, or where he appears, since some people have asked for more information on his lore. Most of them are one-shots, but they're interesting, especially because they show the different ways authors interpret a character we know so little about. In my research, I came across two Caradoc Dearborn stories: Never Forgotten By measurebeyondwit and Crying Firewhiskey By measurebeyondwit. You can find them on Fanfiction.net. I really like the interpretation given to Caradoc (except for the fact that he's a Ravenclaw here, not a Slytherin), and in reading Crying Firewhiskey in particular, it's mentioned that Caradoc had a younger brother (four years younger) named Stephen, who died in a car accident (or at least that's what's been said). I love this HC and would love to incorporate it into FF, The Story of the Prince, with a few hints. For now, here's my initial contribution to the lore of Stephen Dearborn and his young life.
Name: Stephen Dearborn
Born 1964
Died summer 1973 at age nine
Purebred
Younger brother of Caradoc Dearborn
The two were very close, so much so that they almost seemed like twins despite the 4 years that separated them
Implied Personality: Intelligent (“brilliant little brother”) Emotionally mature for his age, Curious, eager to “be involved”
He saw Caradoc as a role model, he was already planning his life at Hogwarts with his older brother, he couldn't wait to get started.
His death changed Caradoc drastically, it is because of his loss that he became more and more protective of the people he cared about (For example he started to see Severus as the brother he lost)
Stephen's untimely death is one of the reasons Caradoc agreed to join the Order of the Phoenix.
I wrote a short story that shows Stephen's disappearance, but since it is set before Caradoc's third year at Hogwarts I can't include it in my story, not in chronology at least, so before I figure out how to insert it into the narrative I will publish it here on Tumblr
Finally, a huge thank you to measurebeyondwit, who created Stephen and inspired me to include him in my story. I don't know if she'll ever see this post, since her two stories are from 2012, but I think it's only fair to give her credit and keep this thank you online 💚
