STEPHEN DRUESDOW Yiop was made in photoshop using layer upon layer of effects to create an image. In this case photoshop is used purely as an image generating tool rather than photo or image re-touching utility. The image generated inspires ideas of an astral plane of pure imagination which is populated by flying digital spirits. MandalaA was made recently using a pixel art program. I start with one pixel for the center of the mandala and then surround it with layers to create forms shapes and colors. I work with symmetry in this case because I consider it to be an underrepresented aesthetic. The use of symmetry is inspired by the designs and patterns of indigenous culture. In this case the image is inspired by Tibetan mandalas. MandalaC displays an unintended color scheme due to the color printer cartridge not printing blues and greens. I decided the form and the colors were still adequate so I left it in the red and yellow form rather than the intended green and purple. This mandala should inspire wild balance. Interstices was made in photoshop as well, with each colored shape being a separate layer for use in possible animation. The forms are inspired by the technological aesthetic apparent in circuit boards, death stars, gundam suits, and all manner of science fiction space ships and technological forms. I am intrigued by this aesthetic and have been working with it to form shapes and communicate its essence through my own work. In this case the forms appear as tree branches and overlapping technological branches. The image and title interstices are intended to promote ideas of interconnected communities, ecosystem layers, and complex interaction in all of its forms.
