Based on the cult classic horror film of 1980 which became one of the top selling VHS rentals of all time, MANIAC is a comic book designed to blow the minds and upset the stomachs of even the most die hard horror freaks.  The classic character of Frank Zito, as written and portrayed by the legendary character actor JOE SPINELL, is meticulously, painfully, terrifyingly re-created in comic form by artist PAT CARBAJAL and explored in even deeper, crazier depths by Eibon Press co-founder/writer STEPHEN ROMANO.  Officially licensed from the film’s creators and adapted from Spinell and director William Lustig’s original screenplay, this is the ultimate tribute to the CLASSIC MOVIE which started it all.  Yeah, we dig the remake with Elijah Wood . . . but Joe was first, and here you’ll see and experience him as you’ve never seen him before!  It’s an ongoing series that begins with the film adaptation and continues, as the twisted adventures of the MANIAC live on!

Stephen Romano & Morbid Anatomy at Green-Wood Cemetery 

Greetings: I am thrilled to have been invited to participate in this exhibition and incredible event!  I will be contributing works by Wolfgang Grasse, the MASTERPIECE " "Merry - Go - Round" (illustrated below) as well as works by Olga Frobe Kapteyn and an anonymous Masonic Lodge painting of Father Time.  

The exhibition is open Saturday and Sundays 12 - 5 through June 24 and is free.

Morbid Anatomy Residency at Brooklyn's Historic Green-Wood Cemetery!

The residency will be housed in The Cemetery's city landmark 1877 Fort Hamilton Gatehouse (see below). In the attic (below left) will find a new iteration of the Morbid Anatomy Library. Downstairs will feature The Power of Images: Life, Death, and Rebirth, a new exhibition curated by Morbid Anatomy's Laetitia Barbier and Joanna Ebenstein and featuring artworks, artifacts and ephemera from the hand (or private collections) of Kahn and Selesnick, Dana Sherwood, Rebecca Purcell, Ryan Matthew Cohn, Shannon Taggart, Lourdes Sanchez, The Stephen Romano Gallery, Invisible Gallery, Evan Michelson, The Reanimation Library, Friese Undine, J D Powe, Ronni Thomas, Daisy Tainton, Lado Pochkhua, Brian Cotnoir, Joel Schlemowitz, Eva Aridjis, the Green-Wood Cemetery Archives and more.

The residency will be free and open to the public on weekends, April 1 - June 24, 2018, from 12 - 5. We will also be producing a series of lectures, events, tours and parties as part of the residency; stay tuned for more on that.

Stephen Romano Gallery Presents: "DE DOMO DIABOLI", Opening Reception Oct 30 NYC (William Mortensen, LaVey)

Stephen Romano Gallery is thrilled to announce the exhibition "DE DOMO DIABOLI" (The Devil's House) in association with The Living Gallery Outpost in New York City's East Village.

The exhibition celebrates Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) 2017 and All Hallows' Eve (Halloween) 2017 by curating together some of the most celebrated contemporary and historical artists whose subject is the art of the esoteric, the old ways and folkloristic magic.

The exhibition will feature a selection of newly discovered and never seen before photographic works from the 1920's by William Mortensen, whom Ansel Adams dubbed "The Anti-Christ". These works were unseen for the past 80 years and originate from the artist's first wife's estate, and are exclusive to Stephen Romano Gallery. Pictured above is a photograph William Mortensen took of actress Fay Wray which once discovered by Faye Wray's devout Mormon mother, she had him smash all the glass negatives and had Mortensen excommunicated from Hollywood. Pictured below is a suite of three photographs demonstrating Mortensen's mastery of the projected image, The work depicts" Lucifer and the Lost Souls in Hell", each figured has been projected onto the paper individually. This work has never been exhibited before.

The exhibition also presents for the first time ever a suite of Spirit photographs and associated ephemera from the renowned CAMP SILVER BELLE, a Spiritualist summer camp situated at Mountain Springs Hotel in Ephrata, Pennsylvania. In her séances camp leader Ethel Post-Parrish claimed to materialize her spirit guide an Indian girl known as Silver Belle, which were discovered to be fraudulent mediumship, and had been exposed in various newspapers. Before exposures, the camp took in up to a million dollars a year from aristocrats from the east coast who sought out a spiritual experience. The photographs taken by Jack Edwards are exhibited for the first time ever.
