Cave In - Live at Roadburn ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ @stephenbrodsky @adammcgrath ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ “All these memories bailing out on me Gone into the void God must need them more anyway” - “Youth Overrided” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ If you’ve ever lost a friend who’s passed away, you know that there exists a permanent space in your heart where their love, their presence, their incalculable impact on your life sits empty but never out of view. Cave In is one of my favorite bands of all time and I was devastated last March when I heard the news that their bassist, Caleb Scofield, had died in a tragic automobile accident. I grew up playing along to their albums and pretending I was one of them jumping around on stage and I never got to see them play live. After Cave In had broken up and gone on to new projects, Caleb began playing in @oldmangloomband, another band I’d obsess about and again somehow never got to see live. His presence was felt in all of his artistic endeavors and listening to Stephen talk a bit between the songs on this special acoustic live set at the Roadburn Festival was like listening to friends recount the poignant memories of a loved one at an informal wake. It’s raw, it’s emotional, and it’s perfectly imperfect, just like the most devastating art typically is. Stephen and Adam play several songs over the span of their career with Caleb and the soft treatment of even their heavy songs like Big Riff lend a bittersweet combo of beauty and sadness during what had to have been an emotionally exhausting set for them. I wanted to point you towards the Caleb Scofield Memorial fund page but it is closed for now, so we will post again in the future when we have new options. For now, know that some proceeds from the sales of this album will go to support Caleb’s wife and children.
