People don’t ever believe my theory of that one minor character from the Watchmen series (Dale Petey/Lubeman) was supposed to be Nite Owl (NOT Nite Owl II) just because:
The way he’s an FBI agent who is obsessed with superheroes/vigilantes reminded me of the origin story for the original Nite Owl (Hollis Mason who was a cop).
There’s also a detective in the actual comic (Steve Fine) who knew of the second Nite Owl’s identity but also investigated several things surrounding the main heroes as well. I think they used a lot from this minor character as well.
Superheroes have to start somewhere. He would’ve been a perfect prototype for Nite Owl if the series wanted to head in that direction I think.
TL;DR Lubeman is totally in the comics. ;) I still think he’s the reason Alan Moore hates the series and you can’t change my mind!
