It fucks me up (/pos) that in the two conts that I’m aware of where rainbow is tortured in some way (Steve labs and early tss), said torture only ends because Sabre let’s them go. NOT because rainbow successfully escaped
Steve labs yeah Rainbow ran out the door and away to presumed freedom, but only because Sabre physically put them down first (well. Threw them). Rainbow was thrashing about in his hands but that wasn’t what freed him. Rainbows only real act of protest in the episode and it wasn’t enough to save him. He HAD to be let go first
And then TSS, Sabre experimented on him for what. Like ten episodes?? That only ended because he decided “yeah I’m done torturing you now I’m gonna move onto something else. Get outta here”
Rainbow made a few escape attempts from what I can remember? There’s the initial looking round the lava room for a way out when he was first trapped, I believe he was trying to fly as Sabre dragged him over to the colour separating machine and then there’s when he was formless lightning. He was technically out! But it didn’t last, Sabre just herded him back to the machine via lava and continued ripping him to pieces in the name of science. (Saying that though I think he was actually trying to fix rainbow at that point. But his idea of fixing them was rip them COMPLETELY apart and then put everything back at the same time)
Like. Oh my goddd. Rainbow you poor thing. I REALLY wish the torture in TSS was focussed on a little more because that’s INSANE. And with TSS sabre being a player too? Even if Rainbow did kill him to claim their freedom he’d just. Respawn. THOSE were the stakes of early tss. “Oh god guys if he kills me I probably can’t find my way back to this area” THAT WAS IT!! THOSE WERE THE STAKES THAT DROVE HIM TO TORTURE A GUY!!
Ohhh my god I can’t image rainbow’s horror if they did manage to kill him, only to see him walking around the next day like nothing happened. I imagine they know already that the only reason they got out is because Sabre released them, but seeing something like that would just compound that. Not even killing their captor would’ve saved them
