At one time or another, your cell phone has probably dropped a call or not received reception. That can be frustrating; but a start-up company wants to do something about it and it revolves around P-cell technology.
Artemis feels that the P-cell can drive right past 4G and turn into something the world hasn’t seen yet. What exactly is a P-cell, you may ask? Think of the cell phone towers that look like trees or umbrellas as an example. The closer the tower is in proximity to another tower, the weaker the strength/service is.
Artemis, on the other hand, wants to have several boxes called “P-waves” that will make service better in a much smaller area. The P-cell will gather the signal from P-waves and give each user their own “personal cell or P-cell.” This will give the user full service all the time.
A major plus for the P-cell is that it uses less power so there will be a lot less phone battery fatalities. The downside is that the P-cell isn’t expected to hit retailers until the tail-end of 2014 in San Francisco, so the initial launch will be limited.
By the looks of things, everything the P-cell has going for it is something consumers complain about with their current phone. If it gets the right backing, the P-cell would be a welcome addition for any cell phone user so almost everyone in the world likely would want one.
[cfsp key="google_adsense_300x250"]“Serial entrepreneur Steve Perlman claims that his new patented technology can create the wireless network of our dreams,” Dan Farber reports for CNET.
“His invention, pCell, theoretically delivers on the long-sought dream of ubiquitous, fast Internet, with the reliability and consistency previously only achievable through a wired connection,” Farber reports.…
OnLive founder wants to revolutionize wireless with DIDO technology
You may know Steve Perlman as the man behind OnLive, but it’s looking increasingly foolish to think the California entrepreneur is all about games these days. WebTV may be a thing of the past, but Perlman’s company Mova provides advanced facial capture software to big names in Hollywood, and on June 4th, he told students at Columbia University that his incubator Rearden had developed a groundbreaking new approach to wireless technology. That last one’s quite the claim, and details were scarce in June, but today the company’s ready to explain how it will “completely transform the world of communications” with a little something called DIDO.
Steve Perlman talks to engineering students about Onlive, re-inventing invention and revolutionizing wireless technology. This is a really incredible talk and if the Onlive service is any evidence of the kind of weight his claims carry, you really need to watch this.
Please note this is a 140+ minute lecture with a long-winded introduction. I enjoy talks about engineering, but if you don't it will bore you to absolute death.
Great video. Onlive is a great company, I've become a huge fan of the service. Watching the video, you can see that Steve Perlman is looking beyond gaming. He wants to replace local computer hardware completely.
