🍫 After rereading Steve Almond’s ‘Candy Freak’ for the 87th time I figured it was time to try some of the regional candy bars he wrote about. I ordered a box of assorted bars from @idahocandy company! Christian, Logan and I had a taste-test of the 4 different candy bars. 😋 We all really liked the Huckleberry Gems, chocolate shells holding a fruity huckleberry cream. 🍒 The Cherry Cocktail was another favorite, and I’m fairly sure the only candy bar I’ve ever had with a whole cherry in the center! The cherry is surrounded by a milk chocolate-peanut mash. 🥜 I liked Old Faithful and how the marshmallow layer had a chewy taffy-like texture. There’s also a ribbon of peanuts suspended in chocolate, and then the whole thing is coated in more chocolate. 🥔 Finally, the Idaho Spud. No actual potatoes in here - the “spud” is a thick marshmallow mound that’s coated in chocolate and crispy coconut. 🥥 We all really liked the chocolate and crispy coconut (that combo is nagging at my brain, reminds me of some candy of old that I can’t remember!) However we’re a little on the fence about the marshmallow, which has a spongy, tofu-like texture. 🤔 We’ll try it again chilled to see if we like the marshmallow better that way. 😋 All in all, a fun adventure in old-fashioned, small company candy bars! 🍫 🍫 🍫 #stevealmond #idahospud #idahocandycompany #candybar #candy #chocolatelove #candyfreak #vermontfoodblogger #hungryenoughtoeatsix https://www.instagram.com/p/CDweOwiBXGf/?igshid=1e7ugtplbko99
