Detroit Tigers send Steven Moya to Triple-A Toledo

The Detroit Tigers optioned outfielder Steven Moya to Triple-A Toledo on Saturday.

With the club still determining whether Jordan Zimmermann will need a stint on the disabled list, the Tigers sent Moya to Toledo in order to make room for left-hander Matt Boyd. Boyd started in place of Zimmermann against the Oakland Athletics on Saturday.

With the minor league season officially over, the Detroit Tigers appear poised to add more players to its roster for the final few weeks of the season.

Erie Seawolves Steven Moya named Eastern League All-Star Game MVP

Tigers outfield prospect Steven Moya capped the EL All-Star Game with a grand-slam in the fifth inning, leading the Western Division to a 5-2 defeat over the Eastern Division and earning the All-Star Game MVP award in the process.The Erie Seawolves are the Double-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers. Moya leads the Eastern League with 22 home runs, knocking in 75 RBI, and is currently boasting a slashline of .264/.290/.540.

Only 22 years old, Moya hails from Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico and is currently listed as the Tigers #20 prospect in the farm system. Requiring Tommy John Surgery in 2012, Moya also missed considerable time in 2013 after straining his left shoulder, but is back in good health, as evident by him tearing up Double-A pitching.
