It was amazing how quickly that work could take over your life. Andy would have usually been complaining about it, but honestly, in that moment, throwing himself into his job had helped a lot. He could pretend that he was okay, that he was over things, he could pretend every damn day of his life. Pretending didn’t make things better, though, pretending didn’t make things better. But pretending was his life and what he knew best, so he carried on regardless. Tonight he wasn’t going to go that, he’d switch that frame of mind off and let himself breathe again. Steven would see right through it anyway, so it would have been pointless to do so. He headed out of the house with time to spare, deciding on a slow walk to where they’d planned to meet. Catching up was the name of the game, something to eat and a couple of drinks. Sometimes he couldn’t quite believe how much time went by before he saw some of his friends.
Arriving at The Pricess Louise with five minutes or so to spare, he pulled out his phone as he made his way inside, shooting a quick text to Steven to let him know that he’d arrived. He made a beeline to the bar, figuring he’d just wait there until his friend turned up, order a pint and sit and enjoy for a couple of minutes. So that was exactly what he did, losing himself in his thoughts for a couple of moments, watching at the droplets of condensation chased each other down the side of the glass. He let a breath go, letting his gaze wander around the room, taking everything in, trying not to get too lost. If he did that he’d only end up depressing himself and it really wasn’t worth it.
