My family support my transition. For all the shit they've done over the years, they openly support my transition.

But it's the most back-handed support I've ever seen. My dad drives me to and from, and pays for, my clinical physchologist sessions, my sister regularly asks how my transition is going and my mum has offered to pay for my hormones when I get them.

Tat's the support. The backhanded bit is in that not one single member of my family, on either my mum's side or my dad's side has called me Allison, or Ally. Never once has anyone in my family used female pronouns while referring to me.

It's like they've gone "We see that you're going through one of the most difficult things you're ever likely to experience and we support you but we really don't want to put in the effort to learn your new name and there are too many rules so we're just gonna pretend like nothing's changed"

This realization hit me over christmas when my mum gave me a christmas card with my birth name on the envelope and the card said it was to her son. Today, my sister gave me a birthday card hat says "to my brother" on the front.

It feels like they're not quite sure what's happening? Like they think that saying they support me is 100% supporting me. i dunno maybe im just reading into it too much maybe im just blowing things out of proportion
