HAWKINS DAILY
November 1, 1994
With the wrap-up of Hawkins’ annual Halloween fair came a sense of returning normalcy to everyone in town. People are slowly but surely moving back into the swing of things after the disappearance of local freshman Matthew Helms. Helms disappeared without a trace on October 28 after leaving a friend’s house around 8:30 at night. The boy was last seen riding his bike down Maple Street by a neighbor. After that, no one knows where he went. And no one has a clue. Or at least that’s what they thought. Sources say a local teenager found a hat belonging to Matthew Helms in the woods just outside the fairgrounds. The Hawkins Police Department have reportedly sent a DNA sample found on the hat to the lab for testing to see if they can find a lead on where Helms could have gone, or with whom. Any information on Matthew Helms or his whereabouts should be immediately reported to Hawkins PD.
THROUGH A RESIDENT’S EYES
“If I see any of those West kids sneaking through my backyard again I think I may just shoot one of them. My property is just that - mine - and I’m sick and tired of white trash kids trampling my garden. This is a warning to the Wests - stay in your own yard!”
“Anyone who thinks the missing kid’s disappearance was anything short of a family affair is plain stupid. No one could ever manage to get rid of a kid as easily as their family. If Hawkins PD isn’t investigating the Helms family they’re making a big mistake.”
“I would pay actual money for Carter Castillo to shut up.”
“I wish more people cared about what was going on up at the Hawkins National Laboratory. They locked up the gates on the 29th and I haven’t seen anyone come in or out since then. And the smoke coming out of the chimney smells like death. They have to be doing something toxic in there and it can’t be safe for Hawkins.”
“Do we really trust the Stewart family to be the ones at the head of our town? They look like they’re barely keeping their [redacted] together in public, who knows that the [redacted] is going on behind closed doors?”
“You’d think the Chevalier girl is some kind of royalty because of all the security she gets. Jesus.”
